Ethical Picks: People Tree S/S17

This is my first post here about ethical fashion. After watching The True Cost documentary in my textiles class I decided that if I was to be going into the fashion industry, I should be going into it demanding change. You could say I am entering on an ethical fashion journey. Slowly but surely I am starting to shop more ethically and sustainable. The first step was just shopping more consciously, in terms of considering whether I needed that sixth summer dress or that tenth jumper. I am now thinking like this every time I shop and I sometimes cave and I sometimes do not, but actively considering your impact on the world is part of becoming a conscious shopper. I will definitely be talking about this in more detail in other posts, but today I'll be showing you my top picks from People Tree's spring summer 2017 collection.

People Tree is an ethical fashion brand founded by Safia Minney over twenty-five years ago. They work closely with their manufacturers and all other stages of their Fair Trade and organic supply chains to ensure their clothes are ethical and sustainable. I am loving their range at the moment so I thought I would share some of their pieces with you. The prices range from about £25 for a t-shirt to £100 for a dress. Obviously, this is the more expensive end of high-street prices but they are good quality. They also have great sale prices so check those out! The cuts and prints this season really appeal to me as they are classic but still on trend and all the pieces would look amazing casually and dressed up, meaning you will wear them a lot more. As well as clothing, People Tree do some really pretty minimalist jewellery that I want to get my hands on. However, my very very top pick would be Safia Minney's  book "Slow Fashion." If you're interested in the fashion industry I would definitely recommend reading this book, I haven't finished it yet but I am loving it and I'll put up a review as soon as I have (though this may take a long time... I am a sloooww reader). See you soon with another post!

The Goals Aren't Going Great

You might have read my post on my goals for this year. It's quite an aspirational list and very much a personal journey in terms of health and well being, instead of travelling to a destination or something along those lines. I know its only March, and this might seem like I'm being hard on myself, but I'm not happy with the way it's all going. Mainly, because it's not really going anywhere. I'll eat healthy one day, then crave the next (I wish cakes in mugs did not exist... they're too easy). I'm letting my organisation slack, I'm spending too much money on things that I don't need. I'm writing this, not at yoga, where I should be at this time on a Tuesday evening, and I'm also writing this post to avoid my A-Level Media homework. Finally, I'm letting my self-care slip away. I'm also making no progress with blogging more frequently, as you can tell. However, this will be a year long process and I just need to give myself time to get into a routine. I'm gonna' try baby steps.

Some things I'd love to do are de-clutter my "stuff" and my mind. Try to make that side of life more simple so I have more time for the things I love as I know having lots of "stuff" isn't the cause of my happiness. This would involve really narrowing down my wardrobe, focusing in on what's really my style and buying fewer, better quality pieces. Also, I'd like to simplify my skincare and makeup routine. I don't have a complicated routine but I have lots of products that go unused. I've ordered the necessary things I need to start a bullet journal, so instead of having a planner and a blog planner and multiple notebooks I'll just have one place where I write and track everything. I've heard this will change my life, so I'll give it a shot.

So there, we're pretty much back to where we started. I'll keep you posted of any improvements and write regular check in posts like these as I think it's a great time for me to reflect upon myself. On a lighter note it's been sunny in the UK over the past few days and it's been lightening my mood insanely, which was much needed. I hope that your goals are going well and I hope you're having a great year so far, despite any wider events that may have occurred...
