A RESPONSE TO MY PINK PROJECT

video

 [ PHOTOGRAPHY: MYSELF + @RACHTFCP]

Me and @rachtfcp paired up to create a photoshoot reflecting on our project on the colour pink so far. After brainstorming ideas we thought about how pink can stand out so much against other dull colours. We wanted to portray this as how it is a colour of expression and how many people use it to express their gender and sexuality without having to write it all over them.

I feel the extravagance and strange, almost disturbing images we produced really connote this. The tiara and broken up feather bower also add to the aesthetic of expression. The way the colours appear almost neon compared to the dark and dirty water was a key element for us. We also wanted to explore a range of pink shades in one image to compare the effects of each.

As well as being a message of expression. I feel the image also reflects on how trashy and predictable the colour is and therefore shows both of its capabilities. The pink rubbish bin helps this side of the storytelling and the My Little Pony toy relates back to the Barbie trend I talked about in a previous post.

We also had to create a short moving image piece to compliment out photoshoot and I believe this reflects our message. Without any words or physical sound how images can speak to people and how the colour pink can connote deeper meanings than being just a tacky, girly colour.
